Tumbleweeds

I was born in Tumbleweeds

Where that wind just can't help but blow

But at least that wind is true to itself
Unlike some people I know

I was raised in the heartland
On what some people call the good book

I was even baptized but I opened my eyes

After taking a second look

One Sunday mornin' in church

Some folks weren't allowed to come in

To join us that day to worship and pray
They had the wrong colored skin

Now my parents had always been there

They knew it just wasn't right

So we jumped that track and never looked back

And I started seeing the light

Self-righteous hypocrites tell me

Not going to church is a sin
Well it seems to me the sin would be
Not letting that family in

So when I go to church in a sunset
Or in a beautiful mornin' sunrise
It's from heaven above like the innocent love
I see in children's eyes

It might be a Jesus or Buddah

Somebody begging for bucks on TV
But whatever you choose you just can't loose
If it saves you and sets you free

I might be a saint or a sinner

I suppose that remains to be seen
But I'm doing my best trying to shuck all the rest
Hoping I'm somewhere in between

I'll never stop thanking my parents
For teaching me right from wrong

Cause the message is clear if you choose to hear
That holy unwritten song

We got to stand up and be counted
Who are you when no one's around

We can be hell bent or heavenly sent
While we're on our way homeward bound

On our way homeward bound

Born in Tumbleweeds
Where that wind just can't help but blow

But at least that wind is true to itself
Unlike some people I know

Yeah at least that wind was true to itself
Unlike some people I know

It Is What It Is
